When Audrey Hepburn emerged from the taxi in a black Givenchy dress, no one raised an eyebrow at her attire. That outfit seemed more appropriate for a formal evening affair, but Audrey challenged it by sipping coffee and biting into a scrumptious croissant Tiffany’s shop front. This opening scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s waved goodbye to the stereotype of the colour black, and started a revolution in fashion.

Look around you, at this very moment, how many people are wearing black? I’d spare you the trouble of counting – don’t even bother.

It’s almost every day when I come across terms like “Black is back”, “The new black” and “How to wear black”. It goes into saying that this is probably the most overused and persistent topic in fashion. Yet, we never get bored of it.

Some believe ‘black’ to be slimming, while others call it the age-barrier. Black is like fashion’s comfort food. It takes care of you when you are having a bad day. It embraces your body to give you the warm, comfortable feeling. You can never go wrong with black. It is casual, semi-casual, formal, semi-formal – you name it and ‘black’ is the answer.

It has always been an iconic and classic option for designers. Every designer has showcased an all-black collection, at least once in their career. And they all are very proud of it.

Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto finds black modest, arrogant and mysterious.

“It means that many things go together, yet it takes different aspects in many fabrics…But above all, black says this: “I don’t bother you – don’t bother me!” says Yamamoto in his book, Yohji Yamamoto.

The black dress has been the foundation of a woman’s wardrobe for centuries.

In the 15th century, when black was the official colour of mourning – it was a symbol of wealth and power. A sieved stratum of the society could afford to wear it.

Gradually the queens took over and tagged ‘black’ as the colour of elegance, sensuality and modernity. It became mandatory for every high-class woman to own a chic black evening gown. This was followed by the birth of the little black dress, famously known as the LBD (That is an entirely different story, which I might dig into some other day).

And today, as the chilly winter winds slam against my window pane, I wonder, have we stepped behind the yellow line, when it comes to wearing black? Are we being safe, or extremely boring?

Black gives a leeway to be daring and experimental, but it’s also liberating you to get lost in the crowd. You tend to lose your identity. It’s the safest bet – wear black and you won’t stand out. That blue scarf might, but the outfit in entirety is fused with the background.

Even though, black blurs the gender boundaries, it holds the irony torch. This mask of versatility can sometimes be mistaken for an “I-am-boring” one.

The streets are buzzing with dark-coloured moving objects and it is the default option when your inner stylist has gone on a holiday. Your retina doesn’t have to dodge in a fiesta of colours. You can experiment with varied cuts, styles, fabrics – anything that will suit your body and skin type. It’s amalgamates with every culture and race.

This fashion classic can never go out of style especially if you live in Melbourne. Wearing black is a social uniform in this Australian city and if you are a rebel – there shall be consequences.

This glamorous, seductive, powerful and practical colour is leading the fashion industry to a whole new level.

Nothing can replace its elegance and charm, whether you like it or not!

It's come to my attention over the last few months that I have become a boring, scrabble Loving hag.
A person who has become part of the business world.
A person who takes things seriously.
A person who gives a shit about interest rates and who, after some pretty impressive stubborness, has decided to become a grown up and get my license.
But this week, a part of the old me came back.
The 40 something who wore beige (thanks follower Kat!) and tried to conform with the boring whats-its in the corporate world, has decided to pack her serious suitcases while replacing herself with somewhat of a slightly more outrageous and fun loving me.

During a shower epiphany tonight (I love those!) I realised how our generation (the 'supposed' scummy,slob like, knife wielding under-gen-Y'ers) can break free of the boring corporate world and make a statment for our generation.

The 80's had the punks.
The 90's had the Cranberry's listening rebels and we have the outrageous fun loving bunch.

Nothing bothers us under-gen-y'ers.
We break all boundaries of marketing for our businesses through viral marketing of facebook, Twitter and blogs.
We actually have businesses in our teenage years.
We swear. Openly.
We have the technology at our fingertips to research and advertise all over the world.
And despite what the media portray us to be like, we're very savvy minded and are staring success straight in the eye- in fact we're staring at it so closely and intently it mat aswell b the world championships of a staring contest.

But it's not just the fact that we're fearless of success that puts us apart from the other Gen's; It's the way we sell.
In the last 2 years I've seen a change in the way under-gen-y'ers sell things.
The way we sell ourselves on a daily basis; to new people, for jobs, etc.
We're outrageous and fun And we love what we do.
We're the generation of shock, horror and statements. Why become a boring dull, mixed-in-the-crowd human being when we can be loud, outrageous, fun and become twice as successful?
Well, answer me that?!!
So I'm going to be comfortable in my own skin in this big scary corporate world we are all venturing into.
Be comfortable in my own outrageous, fun loving and slightly immature way.
There's nothing wrong with being overly happy in the business world... If only our Baby Boomers and Gen X's knew that.

1. For when my iPhone goes flat. This happens for frequently to me than being accousted on the street by Charity organisations. Fuck off.

2. To play scrabble. Or to kill people of boredom with my new found love of scrabble and the fact that I lke to take 10 minutes to find every single letter combination on my tile rack; just to end up settling with the word 'been'.

3. To be seen holding an oversized, awkward object, that really has no purpose in my life other than to state the fact " Yes. I stood in line for 8 hours to buy this. I have nothing else to do with my time than to stand in lines."

4. To drop it and have it smash like 40% of iPhones in the world. There's nothing that completes my life than a shattered screen.

5. To then have an iPod, iPhone AND an iPad. I may aswell own shares in apple.

So if you guys hadn't realised yet, we don't post comments because we Like to keep a crappy-wannabe magazine feel. But this morning we received a comment from the Lovely Kat and I thought that it's vital that you all read it as it's a style note on our new favorite colour, or non colour, Nude.

" I am not entirely sure how I feel about the trend yet. I think it can easily get a little drab, so you've got to do it well. It also reminds me of this line in Banger Sisters when the main character realises that EVERYTHING in her wardrobe is beige. It's a classic colour for a reason, but let us not go too overboard, or we'll look like we're in our forties before we know it. " Kat.

No we're not talking about an SBS world movie, we're listing the first 3 things that come to mind when we think of the word 'Nude' this seasons hottest colour... Or well, not-colour I suppose.

But when did nude suddenly become so popular? Was it when we first started seeing the use of grandpa socks teamed with heels in the indie mags, or was it when we saw that the colour of the classic-trench could actually be teamed in a head-to-toe look?

10 Favourite looks from Zambesi SS 10/11

This season, womens-wear in Zambesi bought us a collection of contrast. Light and dark, soft and structured, opaque and sheer, Georgette and leather, masculine and feminine. And it was pulled together amazingly.
Elizabeth Findlay claimed she’d been inspired by the fabric remnants of old collections she found during a clear-out. The ingenuity came into play in collaging them together.
The collection featured a slightly romanced grunge feel of nudes/washed pinks and blacks all pulled together with over sized mesh Tees, lace, plunging necklines and accessories made of ties. And we loved it, in a dark, grunge-like way.

Hello all!
How has your Saturday morning turned out? Fortunately, so far I'm only suffering a mild red-wine hangover. Success.

Okay so I'm sick of seeing editorial shoots that feature outfits that cost 20weeks rent, so I decided we should do a shoot entirely compiled of an op shopped wardrobe.
Now, I had the choice to make things look completely ridiculous (my vintage wardrobe is pretty vast as I used to own an online vintage store, and I kept a few things for myself) but instead I thought we should opt for something less 80's-gone-bad like maddonna's leotard (yes I have one of those aswell) and for something a little more tame.
The shoot went really well despite my bad location choice of a LOCKED memorium! But the day was beautiful, the model was beautiful and the make-up artist was an undercover ninja so all went smoothly.
Thanks to all who popped past to say hi, the shoot should be up in a few days.

So today is the day. The day Julia Gillard became PM, but most importantly the day of our editorial shoot for this month.

We're sick of looking at editorial shoots with clothing that costs 10weeks rent, so we're dedicating this shoot entirely to op shopped clothing. Those treasures we find amongst the trash, the $2 bargain bin bonanzas, the Beacon of light for a fashion students wardrobe (and wallet)!
We'll be in South Bank from 2pm at the war memorium next to the bridge.

Kate Stein Launch Review

Okay, so we've said it before and we'll say it again and again;
We love Kate Stein!
The re-launch of the label Kate Stein, was held at the rockin' warehouse Substation No.4 a few weeks ago and it was an absolute blast!
With beer from Beer Lao, music from, er, well, some DJ (sorry didn't get around to meeting him) we all settled in to party in a warehouse draped in one off pieces from Kate Stein.

The Re-launch of Kate's eponymous label was to introduce the line of one-off pieces into her label.
3 words- THEY.ARE.INCREDIBLE!
Each piece is totally handmade. All fabric is sourced through her travels through Asia and each garment is lovingly handcrafted with inspiration from people she met through her travels.
With kimono sleeved tops, vests and neckpieces it's a collection that we all need to own pieces from.
The Kate Stein website launches soon and you'll be able to pick up her new line through that. Vests starting from $150 and tops starting from only a wee $350 (I know!! I thought they were going to be $800+!!!!) they're cheap as chips for the effort and stories behind each garment.

Allo all.

Sorry I've been so slack with the old blogging thing lately. I've had huge technical dramas of my computer dying in the arse (yep, it may aswell have spontaneously combusted in its state of ruin) right when i have about 10,000 things flying around me simultaneously; like Job hunting, our photo shoot with kate Stein this week (woohoo!), style-profiles (also starting this week) guest writers, our next show (keep your eyes open for the word NOIR soon to be plastered around the city) and my new purchase of scrabble on my phone, it's been hard to get anything done, let alone to write.
so- Here i am writing! You best be all happy now.
Anyway, so this week I've lined up to do a shoot featuring local label Kate Stein who just launched the second part of her label on the 12th on June. 3 words. It-Was-Amazing! And her stuff is AMAZING! Hence the shoot. Brisbane needs to know how great her stuff is!
Organising a fashion shoot is probably the easiest thing to do, but for this one I seem to be getting carried away on so many tangents that I've been finding it hard to find a solid story for the shoot. But, WALLAH, we have all reached a conclusion and it's wonderful. I'm really feeling an urban indie vibe.
Dates are still to be confirmed (I'm hoping Wednesday if a Job interview doesn't pop up) and we're also collaborating with West End boutique 'Don't Tell Fannie'.

On another note though, I am wearing pale blue pants today- and if any of you have met me, you must reliase how much of a breakthrough this is from my usual Black attire. I've recently been inspired by a close stylist friend who is always in ridiculous amounts of colour. I'm trying. I am. And I'm wearing BLUE PANTS. So there, I encourage you all to go out and do the same.

So I realised that Ponchos are really on the in the other day when a little girl came into work and i subtly tried to steal her poncho.
Okay, so she was 5, but nevertheless! It was a cool ass poncho!
But when you like something so much that you try to steal it off a small helpless child- You know it's gotta be in fashion, Even just slightly.

But when did this sudden thought enter our minds that ponchos can actually be cool?
Was it that Mighty Boosh episode in Season 1 where Vince is bringing back the Poncho and cowboy boot duo?
No.
Or was it when we suddenly got bombarded by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Chanel and Gareth Pugh and the rest of the fashion gods by a series of Capes and Ponchos down the runways?
Yep.
Or was it when a spread with Rose Cordero in Paris Vogue way back in March has her pictures with somewhat of a mexican inspired blanky draped around her?
Yes also.

Either way, it's a comforatble, carefree way to spend winter. Teamed with heels, thigh high socks and something underneath (doesnt matter all too much because it's covered!) it's a fail-free way to pull off a fat day after all of that winter baking.
Our advice- Steer free from any sombrero's this winter.

SALE SALE SALE Frenzy! what to get and what not to get!

Okay, so the EOFYS (end of financial year sale) is here again and it's absolute frenzy in the city with ridiculous price drops on new season stock.
Now, it's great to buy big in sale time, but there's a few things we all need to abide by to save some coin, wardrobe space and post-shopping-frustrations.

Here's some of our sale shopping tips:

1. Read a couple of fashion mags before you go ANYWHERE! Pick out out least 5 outfits that you think you absolutely must have or that you think define your style. Find the basics between all of the images (Tailored pants, jackets, certain accesories, skirts, indie, boho, skanky, tailored etc, etc) and write them all out on a list. Buying basics are the most complimentary thing you can get for your wardrobe becuase they are the foundation for your outfits.

2. Be aware of current 'classic' trends like basic colours (at the moment beige/nudes are right in) and sihlouettes and styles.
Don't write anything down on your list that you think will only be in for another month. you may aswell save the money from that leopard print leotard and put it towards that slightly more expensive pair of tailored pants that you will wear for a few more seasons.

2. Go through your wardrobe!!! Remind yourself of what you have, and if anything on your list will go with the things already in your wardrobe. If you think the things on your list go with at least 3 things in your wardrobe, then you know you'll use that item if you buy it.

3. If it's cheap- It does NOT mean that you need to buy it!!

4. Less is definately more. It's alot better for your wardrobe space, and style if you buy less of the more expensive classics that you'll wear a few times a week than bags of $5 bargains from Supre that you'll wear once.
If you feel the urge of a $5 bargain bin frenzy coming, flick through your fashion mag images and remind yourself exactly what it is you're on the lookout for. However, if you find one of your casic pieces in a $5 bin, by all means, get it.

5. Top up on basics. These include simple white tee-shirts, stockings, white tailored shirts, jeans, jackets, etc. You-know, the things you always wear.

6. Make sure it fits!!! This is a rule i just discovered yesterday after a bargain pair of pants.
I'm a size 8.
They're a size 10.
They were $25 and have been on my list for months.
I bought them.
I now have a pair of pants a size too big for me and look baggy and ridiculous.
Ah..Shit.

Hmm, so those are ones that we can think of for now. Always follow your style. And don't charge to your credit card.

Here's a list of cheapies we found yesterday while shopping-

1. Cropped tailored military style pants from Barkins (navy or nude) Now $25.

2. Stockings. Target. All hosery 20-30% off! (PS. they also sell nude/toffee shin length stocking socks.)
3. Leather gloves. Barkins. now $20.

4. Trilby Hat. Barkins. now $15.

5. Basic long sleeve scoop neck tee (great layering piece). Cotton on. $7.50

Mirror Mirror Agencies Fundraiser. 27th June.

So if you haven't met the cool kids from the modelling agency MIRROR MIRROR Agencies, then you have no idea what you're missing out on.
With publicity stunts like no other and an army of beautiful Brisbane-ites, they're definately ones to keep an eye out for.

They have a rad fête/fundraiser coming up on Sunday, 27th June 11am-3pm. There'll be vintage stalls, a cake sale, face painting and heaps more all in Newfarm Park on Sydney St, Brissie.

10% of proceeds going towards the Cancer Research Foundation and the rest of the proceeds will be going toward their spectacular launch in the next few months. Your moneys going to a great cause, you get something in return whether it be cakes or a good ol' face painting. It's a win win situation!

They're still looking for cool ass clothes to sell so if you have a big bag that's eventually going to wind up at an op shop then drop them off to the guys at MMA.

So I had my first celebrity moment the other day ( and I use the term celebrity verrrryy loosley- More so a random acknowledgement) at a Cafe.
It went along the lines of this:
Me: -ordering coffee-

Random lovely Girl (RLG)- oh, hi excuse me, this is really wierd but are you Zoie from Religion of Fashion?

Me- oh, ah, (spills coffee slightly) shit, um yeah?!!!

RLG- oh my god! I read your blog! But you haven't posted in a while is it still going?

Me- yeah!!!! Ah, um, well yeah I've been flat out lately and haven't had a chance (due to my current state of Facebook Addiction) to do much and we're also undergoing a huge re-vamp (this part is true- less on the huge though?)

RLG- oh that's great well bye then! -while eyeying off my dripping coffee puddle-

Me- in some foolish tone- "ah okay byeeeeee ... Blah blah blah- may have mentioned something about doing a post on her-

Yeah okay so I'm not the best and random confrontation by stragners while holding a hot beverage- NEVERTHELESS- true to my word I did a post on her AND Religion of Fashion still does exist- more so than ever actually (we're currently recruiting an army of fashion gods to take over Brisbane) AND it's was super exciting to know that SOMEBODY ACTUALLY READS THIS SHIT!!!! Stylish Kiddly Winks

So super recently a family member of mine had a baby (AKA babeh).
I've never been one to give a shit about other people's kids, lives, or well anything in that matter. Eh, your second cousin twice removed has had a new baby? Whoopdy friggen doo. However now that it's my sister in law's turn to have a 'babeh' I'm over the moon and ensuring that every possible person that is unfortunate enough of crossing my path, knows about it in a serious of high pitched shrieks and "eeeeeeeee!!!!"s.

Having a new baby in the fam' is a great thing. It's an excuse to buy miniature baby booties, eat that baby food gloop and a proper excuse to watch kids shows. However lately it's had me pondering on what will happen with my kids (it's at least 20 years away so girls, let's all put down our jazz hands and Calm Down!).
As much as I'm going to torture my sister-in-laws poor child into wearing ridiculous babeh outfits, it's such a fine-line between cute kiddy outfits and 'stylish' outfits. Something that can be taken TOO FAR people!!!
A perfect example of suri and the rest of the celebrity clan of children.

Since when has it been cool to dress up a 4 year old with a mega tote and heels?!!
And will this ever happen to my children (once again it's nowhere near the planning so don't go getting ga-ga on me) since I'm in the fashion industry and surounded by fashion 24/7 of my life.

I think it's cute if little girls are in little lace and floral dresses, but when you let your child wear heels and carry a handbag (what can they honestly have to put in it anyway?!) then that is pushing the boundaries.
As if teenagers aren't insufferable enough with their lust over fashion. How much worse will that get if we're putting out children in Sonia Rykiel at 6.

I once worked for a modeling agency helping out with the kids training courses and these 7 year old girls were turning up wearing Louis Vuitton Jeans and Coach handbags?!!!! They were SEVEN!!! I don't even own a Coach handbag!

Eh, not to worry though. I still have YEARS to worry about dressing offspring of my own, and until then I can prop my sister in law's babeh up and out ridiculous hats on him.

So with this whole SATC fever spreading around the globe Like a frenzy of fashionable fire ants I thought it would only be expected for ROF to put up a post of a few favorite selected outfits that we've loved throughout the series. (in no particular order).

The Tu-Tu.
Now who ever said Carrie never wore bargains?!!
“I remember I bought that tutu for $5!” said Rebecca Weinberg, one of the show's stylists.
The Tu-Tu came back in the first movie as Carrie cleaned out he wardrobe to move in with Mr Big. The girl's unanimous vote? A Must-Keep.

Has anyone noticed that it's always windy in Manhatten! Every season I watch there's a reasonable amount of scenes where carrie's grabbing at her skirt in the fear it may fly off. Poor thing- there is nothing worse than trying to avoid a public Marilyn Monroe moment.
Back to the outfit- I am a uniform black dresser, but Carrie’s season 5 ensemble, which included a sweater from US mall staple, Club Monaco, a dress by department store Nanette Lepore and a Chanel jacket really inspires me to inject a whole lot of colour into my wardrobe.
Add a gust of wind and I'm halfway to being Carrie!

The fresh-off-the-runway vest.

By the time Carrie was preparing to marry Mr. Big in the first movie, she (and the SATC costume designers) had secured super current runway styles, like the Proenza Schouler military vest and studded strappy sandals from their Spring 2008 collection.
I really love the structure of the jacket and the fluid silhouette of the skirt. And the cheeky English-policeman hat is a great accessory!

Nautical stripes in Paris.

Okay, so minus that er, flower (?) thing on the front of her top, I really love mis-matching stripes. Especially when they're Sonia Rykiel. And geeeeuz that skirt looks flatering. A good stripe in a good knit, in a good season (6) can do all of the wonders in the world!

I do not condone the killing of animals but I do love this. A vintage racoon jacket originally bought in season one has made it's sneaky way back in as a layering piece throughout the series.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the rest d the outfit. That shade if Red clutch with the fur, the studded gloves. Gaaaaahh, this is what I'm wearing this week.

Kate Stein. The label who is transforming leggings with undefiable limitations of cool is launching Friday 11th from 7pm at Substation no. 4, 22 Petrie Trc. Brisbane. Come and join us for the launch, with fully sick tunes and free beer thanks to Beer Lao.
We managed to steal the awesome designer away to tell us everything about everything.

Q. So Kate, tell us a bit (or alot) about yourself?
A. Eeek! Um, well I love travelling and hoarding weird stuff – which I suppose are quite conflicting. I used to live in Germany and worked over there in a fashion house. Then I moved to Brisbane and
started studying…. And then a little while later started up Kate
Stein.
My favourite things are second hand, and only last week I bought a computer (yay!). I shy away from buying new stuff and
technology……

Q. So your launch is next Friday (11th June) how are you feeling?
A. Next Friday?! That soon already?! I feel like I am running out of time!! But very excited of course….. By this point I will be finished with Uni for the Semester, and I cant wait to celebrate with Beer Lao and live DJ’s (which is free at the launch – so come along!!!)!

Q. What is Kate Stein all about?
A. Kate Stein has really grown since I started the brand. While I originally only created leggings, Kate Stein has shifted to more of a concept: an appreciation for art and creativity in general. I focus more on styling and creating one-off collections, and sourcing unique and rare finds. Having said that, I still design leggings – although they are no longer my main passion.

Q. Do you think that tights are the news pants?
A. Ummm, yes and no. I mean in the last 4 years tights/ leggings have really taken off….. and I think a lot of girls see them as the comfortable replacement for super tubes or really tight skinny leg jeans. But having said that, leggings will never replace a nice cut
pair of detailed pants!

Q. You also do alot of styling work, do you think that having styling experience makes your design work easier/more successful?
A. Well its funny, I am actually more interested in Styling…. Which was introduced to me through my designing. I love styling because of its versatility….. where as when designing, I really have to keep my target market in mind.
They do work hand in hand though, anything can look good if it is styled properly, and a beautiful design can look horrible if styled in the wrong way!

Q. Has it been a long journey to get Kate Stein to where it is today?
A. I wouldn’t say long, just with a lot of twists, turns and learning
curves.
The journey continues on, and I hope it is an adventurous one! I started off making hats, moved onto leggings, then styling.
Now I have found my true passion, styling/ creative direction and I have never felt more content.

Q. Any advice to give other people who are thinking of starting their
own business?
A. Be prepared to make no profit…..for a long time!

Q. Are you excited for the future of Kate Stein? And where do you want to see it go?
A. I am so excited! Especially because I have a clear idea of what is important to me.
I am so lucky because I have found a way to incorporate all my favorite things into one dream job!
Ultimately I would love to take Kate Stein on a journey throughout my life, treating it as a concept/ way of living and not my business.
I want to travel more and meet inspiring people whilst collecting clothing
and creating one-off collections.

So I've been a bit slack with the ol' newpaper reading lately, but in a momentary lapse of sheer and utter boredom I picked up last weeks city news and came across this article:

ah, Exam time, what a great time of the year (I dont actually know if it is exam time as I have no desire to coincide with study times, ever -even when I was studying). Anyway, exam/study time is always a time when we're striving to get outside of that narrow-minded design box and unleash creativity but it also seems to be about the same time when we're lacking any creative ideas.

I stumbled across Diana Eng's page a while back and thought 'How clever!', so I thought I would pass it onto you guys to also have the 'How clever!' mutterings to yourselves.

Diana Eng is a self confessed Fashion Nerd. But not just one who dresses in preppy clothes and wears glasses. She is a science nerd, and a fashionable one at that. With a resume that includes working as an assistant designer in devopement and research at Victoria's Secret and a contestant on Project Runway (US Season 2), she's also achieved heaps of other career milestones; At 22, her inflatable dress (cocreated with Emily Albinski) made the cover of ID Magazine. She won Yahoo Hack Day in 2006 along with her two-team mates for designing and creating a blogging purse in less than 24 hours.
Yes, she also has a book " Fashion Geek".

So with all of this behind her, she created The Fairytale Show.
The Fairytale Fashion Collection was presented on February 24, 2010, at Eyebeam Atelier in Chelsea, New York City. Models hit the runway while a quartet of circuit bending DJ’s created music from a hacked sewing machine and conductive felt. Seated front row were celebrity scientists, designers, and school children.

So I was on FashionToast today (I WANT her life!!!) and she had a post up on one of her outfits that instantly lept out like a white cladded ninja to my fashion senses.

But what makes it so cool is that it's a nifty DIY outfit (ooooh we love a good DIY) it's as simple as a chopped up thriftes mens thermal top and a long chopped cotton jersey tank.

Nudes and whites seem to be on the way in for winter so it's time to hit those op shops for some quick quirky fixes.

Chanel.... What happened this season?!

Okay, i've never been one to whinge over bad styling,designing, etc as fashion is art and art is a personal taste kind of thing and who the hell am I to judge someone's taste.

BUT, I will make an exception to my rule for the next 5minutes while I go on a short, or rather long rant about how high my eyebrows raised while peeping through the new Chanel collection shown at St Tropez' famous Sénéquier.

For years, no, decades the fashion industry has idolized high end fashion houses Like Chanel and have sourced inspiration from them for the seasons trends and so forth. The world practically follows every move they make so we can be more Like them and be more "high end" which Is why I am, quite frankly, appalled at Chanel's Collection.

The collection looked Like it had come straight from an op shop, and not in a good way. Tacky denim skirts with frumpy fucia cardigans waddled down the runway on "curvier" models (which was great but against everything Karl Lagerfield has ever said about him only using the thinner of the model crop) and horrendous frilly pant suits came out along with, yep, 3/4 length denim trumpet skirts....
"oh no he di'int!"

I know that things can be basic/ugly for collections in high fashion houses and it's always cool because "it's designer dah-ling" but no matter how much you spend on that ugly (yeah I said it!!) 3/4 length fluted denim skirt IT WILL NEVER BE COOL! Ever.

And it's not even that the range was shit, but the range was shit and messy. There were florals, wannabe karate suits, hints of western and cowboy, a flouro pastel wetsuit colour pallete, and crotcheted dresses without any flow at all. It was Like watching a fashion-school-drop out's wanna be launch with collections all midges mashed together and badly styled.
So Brisbane, no matter what designer it's from, no matter how much it cost, please- respect your style and stay out of what could soon become a horrendous fashion trend of denim morman skirts and overly fru-fru pant suits.
Gahh.

So unless you've been living under a rock for the last... Forever, then you would have heard about Tavi. The 13 year old fashion prodidgy who personally, I love because she is of the least pretentious of that smutty fashion crowd and an all round positive happy go lucky gal.

ANYWAY, without going into the reasons of why we all love her, I thought I would post up a quick(long) quote(post) I read a while ago on her blog. She is an incredible stylist if I had ever seen one and "we shall all take thy words of hers to heart."

"A lot of the time I blame my style ruts and lazy dressing on life being poopy (I know I'm lucky, but I'm also angsty, and a teenager) and on hostile environments. No matter how many times I try to stick with the "life is beautiful! Everyone is nice once you get to know them!" mindset, I end up more with the "life sucks, you're standing on my neck" one, because I go to school (or anywhere, but mostly school) and get all sad because there is sexism and racism and general depressing...middle schoolyness. For a while I've let myself use this as a reason to wear a very basic combination of things, every day. But really I should use these hostile environments as reasons as to why I should create my own world through my outfits, because a certain outfit totally puts you in a different place, and it's easier to ignore certain kinds of people when I'm in my own world, yes? And as far as life sucking goes, this then makes me want to create and learn and absorb as many interesting things as I can. This doesn't mean the realities of Life Suckage, like the sexism and racism, should go ignored, and I try to do both (not sexism and racism, I mean creating my own world as well as trying to make life not suck for other people.) This is fulfilling to me. I'm putting this here because I want to hear what you think and because I'll get in more ruts and have to come back to it. If I read this in many years I will shake my head at all the teenagerness, then be sort of pleased."

Well, she had a good point. There's so much shit happening out there but as creatives, and stylish ones at that we can create our own little happy world in the way we dress and style ourselves.
So followers, head out there tomorrow in your most creative outfit and create the world that you want to live in.

Don't cry over spilt milk.... FINE I won't!

So I was sitting in the ever freezing Queens Plaza food court the other day (I still think suncrane has the best sushi in the city) and as I was chowing down as least provocatively as I could on my whole sushi roll there was a familiar sloshing sound (familiar to a cafe worker) of a whole milkshake being spilled all over the floor.
Hmm, tricky situation. If it was me, I'd sit there, complain that i'd have to find something to clean it up with and then run around trying to find napkins from various open front food shops.
But no, the couple who spilt the milk (milk spiller criminals!) sat there, awkwardly, made no attempt to clean it up and then moved 3 tables over!!!
SHAME ON YOU!!!
Now I understand that we live in a society that's too scared to be considerate or whatever but come on. Are we all that filthy that if we make a mess that we just move somewhere else and expect someone to clean it up for us.
SHAME ON US.

So Brisbane, clean up your spilt milk!

So I had the flu the other week, along with my whole house (no, the house itself didn't have the flu..although if it did I wonder how big the tissues would be?)
Anyway, I was watching a movie, Ghost Town this afternoon and the funniest scene came up as the guy had to visit the doctors. Just made me feel grateful that my flu passed quickly enough that I wouln't be in a conversation like this:

Guy- "Puncls"
Nurse- "Spell it?"
Nurse- "Date of birth?"
Guy- "Why?"
Nurse- Sternly and slowly, "What day were you born?"
Guy- "No, I understood the question but why do you need to know that.."

Guy "That's a bit personal isn't it?!"

Hmm, makes me wonder though why they need these details from you anyway. Okay, fair enough for the usual things- smoking, heart disease, anal seepage, etc, but all they're going to do is throw some antibiotics down your throat and push you out of the office to be bombarded by more intimate questions. You've gotta love the "How many sexual partners have you had?" And the "How long have you and your partner been intimate?" Like, C'mon!!!

Anyway, so as the flu is going around again and my personal view that they won't need most of this information anyway- I think we should all have a bit of a laugh and be outrageous in all of the answers that you find irrelevant....

Sexual partners- "457"
Length of intimacy with crrent partner- "I have 3 partners"
Profession- "Inventor of Post-it notes"
Food allergies- "I'm allergic to all foods. I live off air."

It's a team effort....

So I've been flicking through my old mags lately (I had a sudden crafty urge come upon me this afternoon that included furious snipping and incredible amounts of chopped up model confetti, something like if Edward Scizzor hands tried to read a magazine) and I came across an article in the May 2009 Vogue having a chat with creative director Jonny Johansson about his label Acne and his team.

First thing came to mind as I saw the picture of the people behind the label who now have over 650 stocklists over the world.....HOLY SHIT that's alotta people! And that's only his creative team.

I've learned the hard way through my label (now dissolved) and through the escalating number of theatrical fashion events ROF is organising is that you need to have good people around you. And even better, you need a helping hand sometimes...you do. This cannot be a one manned mission unless you decide to become a stress nazi with a receding hairline due to you slowly tearing your hair out bit by bit.
I bet Jonny Johansson wanted to create it all by himself and call Acne his own. But you know what, he let his ego go and brought on an incredible creative team who have taken the brand to bigger and better places.
Moral of the story- We creative people need a helping hand sometimes, and need to be grateful for the help that we receive, in any form.
So have a squiz at the people in your life and try to bring into your life more people who can take your business, creativity,life to bigger and better places.

How Grunge is TOO grunge....

So I've been reading the recent RUSSH mag lately (of which I'm quite dissapointed I must say?) and I saw the new GUESS ad by Raphael Mazzucco for their AW '09/'10... And woah man.....Dirty much?

I'm all up for controversial, shock factor induced ad campaigns and a bit of old dirty grunge and rock n roll, but the question comes to mind- How much grunge is TOO grunge?

"The GUESS ad campaign...Too grungy?"

Grunge is a pretty hard look to pull of properly in heavy doses without looking like a street tramp who's been sleeping with Amy Winehouse for too long.

How do you do grunge properly?
Start off small, mix a few bits and bobs together and work your way up. It's another personality you have to take one- it's not something that you can throw on one morning after being in floral all week and be able to work it.

Considerig I was organising/running/hosting/MC'ing it I have to admit I was too busy with other things to really absorb it all up. But with great reviews spreading the web I think it may have been a fabby dab afternoon.

We received lots of yummy treats including Cupcakes from The Cupcake Parlour that were AMAZING! I didn't have time to eat any on the day, but the stale one that i had the next morning for breakfast was still incredible!
And then with a vintage tea cup in hand, cupcake in the other and insanely heavy goody bags hanging off a limb we all sat down to enjoy what could possibly be the most hardcore long fashion show in histry of fashion.

No I have not jumped off a cliff, slipped on the bathroom floor and fell in the toilet NOR have I been WANTING to ignore all 700 or so of you, I've just been a tad flat out with our special tea party which was on Saturday.

So I've been trying to squeeze in as much Blorking (blog stalking) as I can with my very sparse spare time lately and I keep coming across these pretentious bloggers (not naming names because I love you too) with their contents of their handbags laid out perfectly on a table to gloat on their new accessories.
Had you seen them?
Is it just me or are these people freaks? My handbag never stays perfectly clean for longer than a day due to business cards, tax receipts, bobby pins, hair Bands and the copius amount of shit I seem to collect?
So this is the difference between two bloggers bags:

Hm, so maybe I should try to be neater or whatever.... But to say the least I'm quite astonished and proud to have fit so much into my shoulder satchel!
And I'm proud to say that I shoved ALL of that (minus the losing scratchie and a few receipts) back in the bag in a very disorganised manner.

The fringe is back again.

Most girls seem to idolize these women who are bold, beautiful, relentlessly bitchy and the all round "popular" girl.
I'm not saying that I haven't been down that road before but lately I've really been idolising girls with fringes. The zooey deschanels and that chick out of pushing daisies Chuc.

Their cute, really well dressed, and all round awesome chicks. Always happy and always pleasant to other people.
Does having a fringe automatically make you this innocent but uber cool and chic lass? Does it make you look like you have a better view of life, more positive and more full of energy than a berocca and redbull put together (I've done that before- NOT somethingto try at home!!!)
Maybe it's the stereotype we give them like the stereoptype we put people in who wear sneakers with their work suits to work.
I darno, but I do love the way of life of these fringe doting lass's and as a new fringe adoptee I think I may just smile at strangers a little more and skip in the rain with daisies in my hand.

SO I admit it. I'm a hoarder of pretty much all types of clothing.
I went through a phase last year where I only wore dresses, listened to french music and had a sudden urge to wear court heels and gloves and eat cucmumber sandwiches and say "Oh how terribly FASCINATING!" with a bit of spit coming out of my mouth at fascinating....

Okay, too far.

ANYWAY, Tomorrow the 30th of April we can all dress up in our favorite vintage and antique clothing and head along to Frocs, Docs and Diamonds. A fashion show being held at Paddington's Antique Centre to celebrate their 25th year in business (Go Guys!). It promises to show all of our favorite yester-year pieces styled and put together in a whole 'new' way.

So, get out those granny pieces, your gloves and knee high beige stockings that have a tendency to wrinkle at the ankles and head along to 167 Latrobe Tce Paddington to sip on Bubbly and watch a "Terribly FAN-th-astic" show. (Don't really, if i see ANY of you wearing old lady sock holsters and GOD FORBID granny undies, I am firing you from your job as a follower!).

I recently found one of my grandma's beautiful woolen cardigans that is the colour of the greenest green you have ever seen. The kind of green that makes you feel alive and happy of full of green-ness.
Green has always been my favorite colour (not to wear) and it's always made me feel at home.

FASHIONED. Exhibition at Artisan April 22nd

Hey so i've been falling in love with local designer Tovah Cottle lately and I jumped with joy and shrieked like a school girl when I found out that there will be a fashion show on the opening night of the exhibition at Artisan (Fortitude Valley) on the 22nd April featuring Tovah's work along with two other MSIT students and another 9 selected designers.

Tovah Cottle along with other MSIT students Laurence St Pierre, and Pamela Cameron will show their works in an exhibition held by Artisan Gallery from 22April- 5th June with other designers Alice Leahey, Heidi Stevens, Jacque Prior, Jeremy Gillis, Lauren Elise Clarke, Melanie Kate Foote, Priya Cox and Robyn Taggart.

Designer Tovah Cottle has used silhouettes, shape and texture to create honeycomb textures and curvy shapes for her feminine fashion designs. Her two garments to be displayed in the exhibition were inspired by high-tech urban architecture, art and fashion.

Canadian-born designer Laurence St Pierre was influenced by industrial design and architecture to create three avant-garde fashion designs. The fabric and styling used in her pieces represents rough industrial surfaces such as lifted paint on a rugged wall, structures with exposed beams and tangled wires.

Millinery graduate Pamela Cameron drew inspiration from birdlife and scenery in outback Queensland to create Pelican Collection, a series of seven extravagant hats. The colourful pieces feature well-endowed trims, feathers from native Australian and exotic birds, silk veiling, beading and flowers.

Unleashed Curator Gabriella Szablewska said the MSIT students' garments will be on display among video installations, typography and other fashion designs inspired by some of the great art movements of the last century.

"Unleashed showcases adventurous Queensland talent, featuring the most exciting and innovative graduate work from leading art and design institutions," Ms Szablewska said.

You can join myself and others on the opening night on the 22nd April (geez how many times have I mentioned that it's on the 22nd April......oh, by the way, it's on the 22nd April!) to see a fashion show co-ordinated by Caroline Gardam and GUESS WHAT!!!? The exhibition will be opened by co-founder and assistant editor of Frankie, Louise Bannister. It's going to be a great night to mingle with industry darlings, can;t wait to see you there.

A. I recently purchased a fox stole, but I keep it in the freezer to preserve the fur.

A. I always have so much dry cleaning that needs to be done! It would go towards that!

A. I once went through a phase where I obsessively arranged my clothing by item, length, and colourtone. But it tends to be arranged now by whatever has recently been laundered for me.

Okay, so I'm meeting up with Ash from the Label Uncle Phuncle today to discuss many pretty things and pretty much just say "yaaaaaaay" coz she's in The Religion of Fashion Tea Party in exactly 1month!

Anyway, so I sent out an email to all of the designers last night with a few questions and between now and the show I'll be posting then up on the blog so you can all get to know them a but better? Huzzah!

So, I woke up to ash'a reply this morning. Oh I love her!

Q. Who are YOU?!
A. Ash. A 21 year old gal who at the end of a music degree decided to start
her own fashion label. You know, as you do, in the middle of a recession. I
love lots of things, among them; my cruiser bike, my cat, and my new
Japanese writing set that says "I wish listen to that music again" on the
envelopes.

Q. Describe your style.
A. ok. Girly. Bows. Pastel. Bows. 60's. 50's. bows. cute. Nautical... and
bows. I am infatuated by the 50's and 60's, not only fashion wise but love
the music and moral values of back then. (yes what I'm about to say is mega
lame) I create clothes that I want to wear, that represent those values, and
I feel confident and comfortable that the clothes I wear/create are representing me as a person(gee, way to generalise)'cause lets face it,
everyone judges everyone. No. don't say you don't. you do. So if you want to
feel pretty and girly and retro-esque then I think you might like my clothes. I know retro is everywhere, and it's been done over and over again.
I try to create retro inspired clothing that doesn't look like you've stepped out of a time machine; actually I'm quite paranoid about creating
something that looks like a costume, though sometimes it's unavoidable.

Q. What piece do you treasure the most in your wardrobe?
A. Hmmm...this is hard, I have things that I love love LOVE, but as for
TREASURE most.. Would have to be my insanely special lemon and white knitted
V neck sweater my Aunty Jenny knitted me. It oozes awesome. All over my
wardrobe. Awesome-ness... everywhere.

Q. If you found $40 what would you do?
A. I'd sewing nerd it up and splurge on $10 per m fabric and buy FOUR WHOLE
METRES OF IT. But that's only after I posted an add in the lost and found
section of my local paper, waiting two weeks for its rightful owners to step
forward

Q. Do you arrange your wardrobe by colour or items?
A. err colours.. yes... Actually no. I wont lie. I arrange them in 3
categories (involuntarily) Still in wardrobe- yet to be auditioned. Bed-
second round; call backs. Floor- try again tomorrow; or after it has made
its way back from the washing line because I presumed it was dirty after
being thrown on the bedroom floor. In-between this process I guess they are
in some sort of line up arrangement. So I'd have to say by item definitely.

Q. Will YOU become a follower of the Religion?
Yes. All my life's aspirations have built towards this one moment- that, and
the purchase of my new "hope music -I wish listen to that music again" writing set.

Just a quick update on the fashion show.

We've had an amzing opportunity to hold the Religion if Fashion Tea Party at the Stamford Plaza Hotel on Edward St in the CBD.

It's an AMAZING hotel and the event couldn't have been complimented anymore than by the luxury of the Stamford Plaza.

Due to their availablilty the event has been pushed back to SATURDAY 15th MAY.

Hello everybody!
If you were wandering around queens plaza on Thursday you may have seen the Sunday Mail doing a shoot with 4 of the 15 finalists in the queens plaza avant guarde competition.
1 of those 4 is one of the student designers that we have in the Religion of Fashion Tea Party coming up in May(more on that later).
I studied with Amy when I transferred my course to QLD and my, she is one cool chick! And a talented one at that!

Amy's avant guarde design is picking up heaps of attention,
"My design is entitled World's Kaleid.
Inspired by industrial lighting design company, Foscarini's lighting fixture series Allegro which is built from oversized metal frames. The dominant shape of the light inspired the extreme silhouette of the tulle overpants, which incase 48 pieces of 4mm diameter dowl (wooden rods).

The print design on the bodysuit was exclusively designed by [myself] using a kaleidoscope technique on Photoshop. The Kaleidoscope pattern was inspired by an installation video on their website called Infinity, which illustrates the magic of light and objects in the Foscarini world. By colliding these two major design elements of an extreme silhouette and an orginal kaleidoscope print, this is how I came-up with the title for the Avant-garde piece."

Hello there my fashionable followers!
How are we all on this hump day kind of day?
My hump day's been productive in a non prouctive way with a big generous dallop of useless information.
1. Americans say compost as "composte"
2. Coke cleans chalk boards.
3. Spaghetti bolognaise is not my forté.
4. Meow meow boutique In paddington stock romance was born (not such useless information and more so excitement-triggering and bankruptcy-is-calling info)
5. And it will take up to approximately 10,000 years for all of the worlds cities and buildings to disintigrate after humans dissapear....

Anyway, what I also found ( yep I'm a slow one) was my new favorite op shop in paddo. It's up on given terrace and it has a little (or a lot) of somethin' somethin' for everybody.

I love a good nook and cranny or two and this place has heaps. There's stairs everywhere, and a ridiculous amount of good ol' fairly priced useless shit that us op shop junkies NEED.
Some of those things could quite possibly be these salt and pepper shakers I picked up for $1. Bar-gain!

They're too small to hold more than one shake of salt and pepper per tea pot but they go nicely with my seasons new teapot fetish that ties in nicely with our tea party soon!
Anyway, they've found a nice spot on my windowsill and they look nice and happy. Good on them.

Minimalism is making a maximum impact elsewhere, but we couldn't expect Andrew Gn to drop his signature embellishments, could we?
With an army of jacketed models in a colour palette of black, navy, steel and some copper colour I don't think would suit my skin tone, Andrew Gn brought us a collection inspired by a Louis XV's

commode in his Paris apartment along with the book Lettres Persanes.
I'm really feeling this collection for winter......

Ahhh, the days of Disco.
Super tight, polyester flared pants, hairy chested men and the era of the fro'. Phrases of 'yeah baby' spoken to porn music rocked the world, and well, we boogied!
However modern day times have come, but now, It's your time to boogy!... but silently. Well, you can be as loud as you like, but no-one will hear what you're listening to.

Yep, it's a silent dj party. A chance to dance in King Geroge square like a lunatic with headphones on and not be arrested!
Silent DJ party's are apparantly sweeping europe like syphillus on a sailor and now us brisbanites can join in too (to the silent DJ party, not the syphillus).
It's pretty much like a club, but you've got to put headphones on and everyone has a mix of different songs playing. SO it's definately a different experience!

Bringing the boogy to this silent DJ party will be DJBacon and DJ Danny Cool.
It's free to come along and PARTAY! But there will be a $10 refundable bond for your headphones incase you run off with them still on your head.

I think I have caught a virus of the writing variety or I've grown a tumor in my brain onthe side that is the creative side.

So due to those reasons I APOLOGISE that I have not been entertaining you all as often the past few days my dear followers. (that and I've also been run off my feet organising tw shoot this week and the tea party which in in 3weeks!)

Anyway- how the bloody hell was YOUR weekend?

Mine was awesome. Quiet- yet awesome.
Went to the triannual contemporary art exhibition at GOMA on Sunday. FRIKKEN RAD man!!!!! If you haven't been already- GO!!
I took lots of pics and absorbed the culture- so when it finishes I'll tell all who didn't get off thee arses to see it all about it.
But honestly- gotta go and see it!

I ate a few popsicles in south bank,

caught a ferry,

walked a frikken long way and went for a run in the first time in months.... Like honestly months. I was like a weasing old cat that had asthma by the end of it.
Rumpused it up in west end and checked out the west end film festival.

Followed all of this action by the new Frankie

and a series of Seinfeld and a WHOLE BOWL of "family creams" biscuits.....and a cadbury cream egg to get in the vibe of the season.

Interview with designer Anna Peng

"I think it’s great that there’re so many people who want to pursue this road. But I just don’t think that everyone realize what comes with it. It’s A LOT of hard work. You really have to have a deep love for it to be able to survive the industry."

Wise words from 28 year old designer Anna Peng. And she’s putting in the hard work. In only her third year of study, she’s managed to work with renowned designer George Wu, and is in the process of designing her graduation collection. She is also juggling a finalist position to be flown to Sydney to show her Avant Garde lingerie set for Triumph International, and then to put the cherry on top, last week she’s been chosen to be one of the finalists in the Queens Plaza Avant Garde Competition.

‘I have to admit, I don’t really have much of a life at the moment. I suppose the glamour is soon to come’, she laughs.

Anna’s every bit artist as she is designer. After studying Art and Education and travelling the globe teaching, she’s returned home to her true passion.

“I went through my primary school books a while ago and realized that I had figures scribbled over the pages. I first thought that it was a body image thing, but then I realized that they were fashion figures with garments, representing my first fascination with creating fashion and beauty.

“However, I went and studied art and education ‘coz when you’re in school and creative –you graduate school and study art. That’s the thing to do. I studied education on the side because then I could get a job at teaching art- and that’s a stable job.

“After a bit of travelling and teaching for 2 years in the UK I realized that all I wanted to do was to create. I LOVE teaching, and teaching people things, but I really enjoy creating things, and I think that’s where the fashion came into it.

"When I was in the art college, for an assignment we had to make something to out of metals. Everyone else was soldering rings and necklaces and but since I love fashion, I ended up crocheting a dress from recycled electrical copper wire, and I walked down the runway of my classroom during the art critique! That’s my first taste of creating fashion, and having to model for it too!

“I’ve always loved fashion, but I chose art and teaching- I guess I didn’t’ want to be one of those naïve girls who are in it just for the glitz and glamour and like, “I want to grow up and be a fashion designer!!”
And with the kids who do want to become a fashion designer?

“I think it’s great that there are so many people who want to pursue this road. But I just don’t think that everyone realize what comes with it. It’s A LOT of hard work. You really have to have a deep love for it to be able to survive the industry…. Having said that, I LOVE fashion and every bit that comes with it.

Passion’s obviously something Anna carries a lot of, as she’s won the 2009 Aspiration Award for Metropolitan Institute of TAFE, and just recently she’s been selected to go through to two finals for two major competitions.
She was chosen as one of the three to be flown to Sydney in a few months to show her avant-garde lingerie collection designed for Triumph. And if she wins, she will be representing Australia, off to London for Triumph International Competition.

"I really love soft and feminine outfits that flatter the female figure, but yet I love contrasting the softness with something that is bold and structured.

"For the Triumph Competition, my inspiration comes from the shell of the tortoise. Women are like the tortoise, who carry their hard outer shell on their backs to protect them from the chaotic world. This strong structure we all carry on ourselves- our outer shell”.

She’s also one of 15 to go through to the finalists of the Queens Plaza Avant-Garde Competition.

Hey i'm not one to bitch and sniffer behind people's backs but I do love how wierd some body parts turn up in photos.
Have you ever had those awesome night out pics to find that your head looks GIANT as if someone had just photoshopped it onto some tiny little body with a slurred cheese and drunken grin?

Anyway, I was Checking out Emanual ungaro's new collection (more on that later) and I got to the last image of Estrella Stchs taking her (solo) bow and then BAM! holy cheezus where did that giant hand appear from!!!!

The Religion of Fashion Tea Party is an excuse for 100 women of Brisbane to get together and sit in the park on an Autumn afternoon and drink tea out of vintage tea cups, eat delicious cupcakes and watch a fashion show from some of the cutest and coolest designers in Brisbane.
We've got designers and Labels like
Uncle Phuncle
Anna Peng
Tara Ziems
Jaqueline Buck Couture
And so many more that are soon to be announced!

We've got music by local composer Miriam Bligh which will be fantastic- think quirky french garden party.

Tickets are $55 which includes a tea cup to take home, cupcakes, unlimited tea during the event, and a goody bag filled with lots of, er, goodies!

Come along in your garden-party wear or your favorite vintage dress and sit on vintage rugs and enjoy a fashion filled afternoon! What better way to enjoy your Saturday afternoon?!

This is an all ages event as there will be no alcohol being served.

The results from the fashion faux pas quest

So, last week I asked everyone what their fashion faux pas were. We've had heaps of emails in- a big cheers to you all!
So- here's the results. Order from most common to least common.

1. Sneakers. Sneakers and work suits. These are the sneakers you had to wear to sports carnivals as a kid.

2. Brown and black worn together

3. The renound cotton spandex dress. Not the cute summer ones we have. But the cheap super stretchy ones that you buy for $20 on sale somewhere dodgy in the myer centre.
3a. The above worn with sneakers.

4.tye dye

5.bum shorts. These are the denim shorts that show the crease of your arse and thigh. Sexy- when you're a stripper.
6. Cocktail dresses/clubbing dresses worn during the day (unless you're at the races)
7. Muffin tops. (rof: I'm surprised this isn't higher on the list?)
8. Kitten stilletto heels. These are heels with the stilletto toe point with 3cm of heel.

Why you should procastinate on Tuesdays

Tuesdays.
Tuesdays are worse than Mondays. Mondays are a fresh slate for the week. There's embarrassing stories of the weekend and you can use the excuse "shit man- sorry it's Monday- I don't think on mondays".
Tuesdays are shit. Monday ruined your ambitions for the weeks goals and you still have a whole week ahead of you!!

Here's 10 ways you cam procastinate on a Tuesday.

1. Go and have a well needed coffee. End up having that coffee in instead of take away and then when you turn upto work 4hours later, tell your boss that you had a panic attack of a shark jumping out of the pavement at you- then When people saw that you were screaming at a street painters trippy pavment art they sent you to a nutter house and you've spent the last 3.5 hours trying to convince them that your were sane.

2. Go to etsy.com

3. Set up an Internet dating profile and speak to people telling them that you are an underwear model who loves the smell of parmasan cheese and owns 13cats.
Ask them out for a date and see what they say.

4. Visit www.religionoffashion.blogspot.com

5. Buy something completely insane. I.e. A carrot, a light bulb or an alarm clock. Tell your boss that you absolutely must buy the clock as you are a particularly heavy sleeper and can't wake up to anything else. Also tell him that you are narcolepsic and must buy it RIGHT now or you may fall asleep in 10mins and you'll never be able to wake up again unless you have a special clock.

6. Convince your boss that you deserve a pay-rise

6a. If he/she declines your offer, trim your toenails on their desk.

7.challenge the office to a minesweeper-off. May the best leave work early!!

8. Facebook. Facebook stalk.

Mirror Mirror Show- 17th March

Oh my........ The Mirror Mirror Show was AWESOME!
Snug deep in the Alhambra Lounge in the Valley I managed to successfully and camel-toe free walk into the show wearing lycra leggings to see some of Brisbane's best up and coming designers show off collections made out of recycled materials. I'm such a sucker for 'wearable art' and avante guarde fashion by students with no design boundaries. It was AMAZING!

The Atmosphere was rocking, I have to admit that would be my BIGGEST praise for the whole event (and i LOVED the event). It's been a long time since I've been to a fashion show that had such a warm welcoming feel to it. Everybody was mingling, everybody was fashionable, everybody was awesome! Tin Nguyen (The host and organiser) did such an amazing job of the whole event and to have such a great atmosphere was such an accomplishment to him. CHEERS TIN!!

The show started with some random guy (who i met later and ended up being not so random anymore) scrunching up newspaper in the middle of the runway. I spoke to him after the show and he said he was told to do it for 3 minutes!! Haha! I now dub-you NEWSPAPER MAN! Newspapaer man is actualy a designer and I CAN'T wait to see his new collection- it's got an amazing inspiration! But shhh, it's a secret until we see it when he shows it.
('scuse my shitty photos- jack was at another event and I was camera-less so it's all iPhone photography folks!)

There was a line-up of designers including Stephanie Gray, Chelsea Whitebread, Tin had his own collection in the show, deshna karan, Anthea Cosentino, Claire Fitzhenry and the Make Up Artist/Designer we interviewed the other week- Kate Bailey.

A few of my favorites were Stephanie Gray's 'dark' input to the show with an awesome dracula style organza coat,

Chelsea Whitbread's abosultely-fantastic-a-rastic pants! I want me a pair! She also had this stick/bamboo shield/vest top thing that was structurally incredible.

I really admired Tin's own collection in the show which featured a gown made completely out of plastic bags (except for the bodice) and his whole collection featured some pretty incredible fabric manipulation. Radness-o-meter 12/10

Everybody's draw dropped when these came out. Well, when we realised that the main of the collection were hand crotcheted out of plactic bags!!!Claire Fitzhenry had a collection ENTIRELY made out of PLASTIC! yep- it's all plactic! talk about hard work. Chheeeezus!

I ran into Kate Bailey just before the show- Had a quick chat and big smiles and hello's all round when she subtly told me that she designed a little bit for the show. I was like- oh cool- expecting something small. And then THESE came out. I was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!!! It was all made out of Old Vogue magazines mainly fanned out into circles and put together and fluted to make that incredible head piece. my eyes and fashion senses were shocked away with excitement and radness. Woahhhhh......

The rest of the night was totally cool. Mingled my way around and met a few of the designers and so forth who were all really cool people.

Tin summed up a Mirror Mirror fashion show in perfect words;
"...every show's been an amazing plethora of creative collaboration. Amid the stress and sweat, everyone has a blast knowing that we're all there to do exactly what we love. There's always that fear factor, but from the moment that the first model walks out into the blinding lights, there's a calm sense of proud over the designers knowing that they gave all they had into their garments..."
